| Repairs and refurbishment (including replating) can
be carried out on many different items of cutlery and
hollowware. The results achieved are dependent on the
condition of the item and its base metal.
In many cases, to gain the maximum benefit from replating
hollowware and cutlery it is necessary to refurbish
the item(s) prior to plate.
This process requires stripping the old plate off the
item, back to the base metal. Many different base metals
are used such as nickel silver, copper, brass etc. The
item then requires buffing, polishing, replating to
the required standard, silver finishing and finally
warehousing.
This process will achieve a product as near to “new”
as possible. If the item is too badly damaged or has
deep scratches then it may not be possible to gain the
maximum benefit, however the condition of the item could
still be improved significantly.
In certain circumstances, such as bright plated cutlery/hollowware
it is not possible or cost effective to refurbish and/or
replate the item. To ascertain if the item is bright
plated it is necessary to inspect each item individually.
A full inspection would enable us to give you a professional
opinion on what final finish could be achieved and an
honest opinion as to whether or not refurbishment will
affect the value.
In most circumstances the item can be refurbished to
a “good as new” standard. When deciding
which silver thickness standard you require it is important
to remember that the trade research associations recommendation
for cutlery is, one micron of silver in normal everyday
use, if looked after correctly, represents one years
worth of plate, so 35 micron standard under normal circumstances
can be expected to last 35 years.
This is dependent on use and how each item is cared
for. For this reason, we DO NOT offer any guarantees
on “length of life” of the silver on any
items we manufacture or refurbish, but you can be rest
assured that we endeavour to provide a high quality
service in order to maintain our high reputation.
The prices quoted are from our standard price list
and include full refurbishment and replating (to varying
standards). All prices are subject to VAT, postage &
packing and before a price is confirmed an inspection
of all the items in question is required. If you require
a quotation for a different process please contact us.
